MILLIE CHENG
10 years in Cantabile
I joined Cantabile in 3rd grade because my mom wanted to find a place for me to sing and “make use of my noise” outside of the comfort of my own home. It was in my first year in Prep 3 when I watched with twinkling eyes Aria perform, and I thought, “I want to be like them.” Cantabile, in a way, was my first ever dream. Over successive school years, I came weekly to rehearsals, eager to sing, explore music, and make friends. However, I never could have predicted how impactful this organization would be for me; Cantabile steadily turned from a weekly music activity to an essential part of my life. I have not yet found a closer community of people who enjoy music and singing in the same ways I do. Throughout my 10 years in Cantabile, my journey has surpassed my original dream of being in Aria to cherishing singing alongside people who inspire me to grow not only as a musician, but also as a person. Cantabile cultivated my connection to and love of music, and I know that music will be a part of who I am and what I pursue for the rest of my life. Thank you to the people who have been a part of my Cantabile journey and shaped my unique voice: to Eggschlagen and Quack, to Elena, Jace, Lori, and Megan, I would not be the person I am today without you and Cantabile.
