Associate Conductor, Musicianship Curriculum and Outreach Director

 

Full-time, exempt, Reporting to Artistic Director. Position open Aug. 2022. Monthly medical stipend provided

 

Cantabile seeks an exciting musician, experienced conductor, and enthusiastic music educator passionate about working with young voices on a very high level of music-making

 

ASSOCIATE CONDUCTOR DUTIES:

  • Direct two to three choral ensembles each season. Design teaching curriculum and repertoire for each choir assigned

  • Plan and conduct rehearsals that include vocal technique, sight-reading with moveable do, theory, performance practice, stage presence, and repertoire (collaborative pianist provided)

  • Conduct end-of-year evaluations and seasonal auditions

  • Communicate Cantabile philosophy and community spirit clearly and effectively to singers and families, instill high level of commitment to the program

  • Assist Artistic Director in collaborations with other arts organizations

 

Contact Hours – 2 Mon; 2.5 Weds; 1.5 Thurs.

 

MUSICIANSHIP CURRICULUM DIRECTOR DUTIES

  • Update and implement delivery of Cantabile’s graduated musicianship-training curriculum for the students of Allegro, Intermezzo and Avanti choirs.

  • Continue to research and update Cantabile’s system of online practice

  • Teach weekly musicianship classes for Intermezzo and Avanti students

  • Supervise musicianship curriculum delivery for Allegro choir  

 

OUTREACH DIRECTOR DUTIES

  • Organize, publicize and lead aspects of the annual Festival for Young Voices prior to the event (September through March).

  • Liaise with guest conductors/clinicians/artists-in-residence prior to the Festival; invite and inform local school choruses and/or community youth.

  • Conduct at and lead the Festival (March)

  • Manage regular outreach and marketing activities to the community

  • Work with Artistic Directors and Staff to create/update outreach and marketing materials

  • Organize and execute regular school visits

 

ANNUAL TOUR

  • Serve as assistant conductor on Cantabile annual domestic and international tours 

 

Strong candidates will possess the following preferred qualifications: 

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in music education, choral conducting, or music performance, or the equivalent

  • Strong knowledge of vocal production and choral technique

  • Exemplary musicianship and teaching skills

  • Kodály and Orff training with successful teaching application

  • Minimum of three years of experience teaching choral music to children

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 

  • Attention to detail and follow-through skills

  • Ability to work with others in a collegial and collaborative way

  • Passion for supporting young singers in the choral arts
