JESSICA CARLSON

Assistant Conductor, Director of Musicianship and Outreach

Jessica Carlson is a graduate of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, where she studied music education under the direction of Dr. Lily Chen-Hafteck. During this training, Jessica taught music in kindergarten, elementary school, and middle school, teaching a variety of instruments and ensembles. Throughout her own education, Jessica also trained in vocal performance with Maria Fortuna Dean and Wendy Caldwell, and performed with UCLA’s top choral ensemble, Chamber Singers. In 2021, Jessica began singing with the Seraphic Fire Ensemble Artist Program under the direction of Dr. James Bass, and performed in four concert series with Seraphic, including the Bach Enlightenment Festival (2022 and 2023) and the 20th Anniversary program. Jessica also attended the Aspen Music Festival in 2022, singing with the Professional Choral Institute.

Before her collegiate studies, Jessica was a member of Cantabile Youth Singers for nine years, starting in Intermezzo and continuing through high-school finishing as student conductor for Aria. During her time with Cantabile, Jessica participated in choral tours in Italy, New York, Ireland, France, Sweden, and Denmark to perform in venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Notre-Dame Cathedral, and the Vatican. She also competed in multiple choral competitions, finishing her time with Cantabile as a soloist in the 2019 European Choir Games, in which the ensemble won a gold medal. Jessica is delighted to continue her career in music education by joining Cantabile’s artistic staff to inspire a new generation of musicians.
