Spring flurries
Cantabile's spring calendar packed with performances and tour preparation
Cantabile's music directors and administrators are experiencing a breathless spring as singers from the organization's different choirs participate in a number of choral activities.
On March 25, Cantabile's San Jose Level III Choir joined the San Jose Symphonic Choir in a performance of Sondra Clark's "Requiem for Lost Children" at St. Joseph's Cathedral in San Jose. Cantabile premiered this work with the Symphonic Choir in November 1996.
The Intermediate and Level II choirs participated in a Saturday workshop on March 18 and sang at the annual Euphrat Gallery Family Art Day on April 1. Also on April 1, Cantabile's Choral Union and Tour Choir participated in the ACDA Children's Choir Festival in Lafayette. On April 5, Carol Menken of the Santa Rosa Children's Choir conducted a special coaching session for Choral Union and Tour Choir. They will perform for the Santa Clara University Choral Showcase at St. Joseph's Cathedral in San Jose on May 6.
The Tour Choir has been polishing its repertoire. They presented a special Preview for Parents on March 27 and have another concert scheduled on May 17 for Palo Alto's Channing House. The Tour Choir will present their official Farewell Concert on June 23 and squeeze in a few more rehearsals before departing on July 1 for ten days of performances in Montecatini, Florence, San Gimignano, and Rome. Cantabile is participating in the Tuscany International Children's Choir Festival. Cantabile's San Jose choirs will present their own concert at St. Edward's Church in San Jose on May 20; and the grand finale all-choirs concert of the year will be held on June 4, at Campbell First United Methodist. After the Tour Choir returns on July 11, Cantabile's directors will have less than a month to catch their breaths before summer music camp begins in August.
