Spring forward
Cantabile looks back on busy fall and looks ahead to busier spring

Cantabile recently performed their winter concert to a large audience at Los Altos United Methodist.  They presented their show in January rather than the usual December because of their participation in a special holiday concert in late November at Stanford Memorial Church, during which they performed a world premiČre of composer Brian Holmes.  Their other engagements of the fall semester were a concert at Stanford Hospital and two musicales, all taking place in December.

Cantabile parents kept busy all fall with fundraising events to support the choir's trip to Italy this summer.  Candy sales and working concessions at Stanford will continue through spring in order to defray costs of the tour.
On March 25 Cantabile's San Jose-based Level III Choir will be featured in a San Jose Symphonic Choir concert, performing Sondra Clark's "Requiem for Lost Children," a work they premiered in November 1996.

Director Signe Boyer and Assistant Director Peggy Spool are also preparing the singers for their performances at the American Choral Directors Association Childrens Chorus Festival which will be held in April.

Meanwhile the tour choir continues to polish its repertoire in order to be in top form for its performances in Montecatini, Florence, San Gimignano, and Rome.  Participants and their tag-along parents are thrilled about being up-close-and-personal to the historic sites in Italy during this long-awaited  2000 Giubileo (Jubilee).

Cantabile's final concert of the year will be held on June 4, with all choirs performing.  On June 23 the Italy touring choir will present a farewell concert before they depart on July 1.  They return to the Bay Area on July 11.

That leaves less than a month to prepare for Cantabile's summer music camp, which takes place in August.
