While the singers enjoyed summer vacation, Cantabile directors Signe Boyer and Peggy Spool attended a Choral Music Experience Workshop, June 26-July 3 at the Institute for Choral Teacher Education in Victoria, B.C. "My week was intense, exhilirating and exhausting!" reports Peggy. "From Tai Chi at eight every morning to master classes in the evening, we never stopped doing, listening and thinking. I will be referring to the experiences for months to come."
Cantabile's Summer Music Day Camp was held in late August, a good warmup for the regular rehearsal season which starts September 7, 8, and 9 for the seven Cantabile groups: Preparatory Singers, Intermediate Choir, Choral Union and Tour Choir in Los Altos under the direction of Signe Boyer; and Levels I, II, and III in San Jose under the direction of Peggy Spool.
Fall begins with a bang as Cantabile prepares for concerts with the Peninsula Symphony, to be held November 18 and 21 at Stanford Memorial Church.
Meanwhile, fundraising has commenced for Cantabile's July 2000 tour to Italy, where singers will participate in the Tuscany International Children's Chorus Festival. Eleven stalwart parent volunteers sold refreshments at the July 4 Women's World Cup Soccer match at Stanford Stadium, earning $1600 to offset tour expenses; and this Christmas season, Cantabile singers will carol for cash.
