As most of you already know, the Baroque Choral Guild is a single organization with a single mission of “Music for Life” reflected in a wide range of activities: the Cantabile Children’s Chorus, Cantabile Camp, the Peninsula Choral Workshop for teenagers, and the adult Guild Chorus.
For some time the board of directors has been discussing whether the diversity of names for our organization and its activities best serves our overall mission. With the help of Dave Hurlbert, a consultant who works with major corporations on similar branding issues, we decided to find a single name that would unify our programs, signal our quality, and strengthen our position in our communities.
After extensive research, much feedback, some false starts, and many meetings, we realized that we already had what we were seeking—Cantabile!
Over the summer, our organizational name will change to Cantabile Choral Guild and all our activities will start to share a common name. The children’s chorus and summer camp will remain Cantabile Children’s Chorus and Cantabile Camp. When it returns in the summer of 2005, the Peninsula Choral Workshop will be known as Cantabile Choral Workshop. The adult chorus will be called simply Cantabile, and where the context is clear, each of the other parts of the Guild will also be called Cantabile for short. One organization, one mission, one name!
I want to assure our singers, audiences, families, friends, and donors that we will still provide the same quality of musical performance and music education that has built our reputation for excellence. As in the past 10 years, Cantabile Children’s Chorus will instill the love of music in young people. Cantabile’s adult chorus will continue its 25-year tradition of bringing exciting and wonderful music to life for our audiences, and as always, the programming will range through all periods of music with a special emphasis on the Baroque repertoire we all love so much.
The two choruses and the summer programs make a powerful combination for building upon the success we now celebrate in this anniversary season. That our activities can now share a common name will help to raise public awareness, maintain our solid financial support, and increase community participation in what Cantabile offers: Music for Life!
