Two Milestones and the 25·10 Campaign

By Wendy Bartlett, Guild President

The Guild Chorus’s 25th season and Cantabile’s 10th season are underway, with all of our choruses immersed in rehearsals. For most of us in the Guild Chorus, this is an opportunity to renew and deepen our understanding of Bach’s great B Minor Mass as we prepare to perform it for you in November.

In her tenth and final season, Founding Artistic Director Signe Boyer leads Cantabile as a whole and directs its Chamber and Concert Choruses. The Preparatory and Intermediate Choruses are under the direction of two new instructors, Kyle Sofman and Shane Troll.

As you all know, a musical organization such as BCG cannot grow or even survive on tuition, dues, and ticket sales alone. As is the case for any responsible nonprofit group, we seek assistance where possible from government grants and private foundation. Ultimately, though, it is individual donations that make the difference.

As we celebrate 25th and 10th anniversary seasons, we also look forward to many more years of offering opportunities for musical experiences to the youths and adults of our community. This fall, to build a firm foundation for that future, we kick off a 2003-2004 giving campaign that we are calling our 25·10 Campaign. The goal is to raise $25,000 in recognition of the adult chorus’s 25 years and $10,000 for the 10 years of the children’s chorus.

On behalf of the BCG Board of Directors, which has already donated the first 10% toward each goal, I ask you now to join us in contributing to our future at whatever level is appropriate for you. And if your employer has a matching gift program, please do ask them to match your gift.

We recognize that many of you prefer to earmark your gifts and are happy to receive donations designated for any of these categories that are already established.

Please contact Executive Director Sonja Wohlgemuth by emailing sonja@bcg.org or calling the office at 650-424-1410 to obtain more information about making a donation, to designate a new category not listed above, or to help in other ways. We welcome donations of office equipment and supplies that we need and also welcome your assistance as a volunteer, especially with Cantabile.

In closing, I would like to express my immense appreciation of Signe Boyer for founding and nurturing Cantabile and for all the behind-the-scenes work essential to lead a children’s chorus. The Baroque Choral Guild is proud to have in its family Cantabile Children’s Chorus, where many children have developed, and many more will develop, a lifelong love of choral music.

Thanks for your support of the Baroque Choral Guild and its choruses.
