A Parent’s View of Tour

by Judy Blood

The highlight of Cantabile’s recent trip to Europe was a day spent with the Vienna Boys Choir. After a warm welcome, the singers had a private workshop with head conductor, Professor Gerald Wirth. The singers then observed the boys in rehearsal where they were given a new piece in English to learn. Cantabile has often learned pieces in foreign languages. It was both enlightening and entertaining to hear a German-speaking choir working on an English piece. Professor Wirth then both choirs in a joint rehearsal.

The day’s events included lunch and a tour of the Choir’s home, Palais Augarten. Following a delightful culminating concert, each Cantabile singer received a certificate and gift from Professor Wirth.

What a unique experience for our young singers. The Cantabile members were pleased and relieved to discover that the Vienna singers are not only excellent musicians, but also normal fun-loving boys.
