Message from the President

This fall is the culmination of an exciting year for the BCG family, marking the beginning of the 25th season for the adult chorus and the 10th season for Cantabile. It is a time for us to look both forward and back, as you will read in other parts of the newsletter.

I’d like to share with you a little about the adult chorus’ recent past, our first-ever tour. Our musical journey took us from the hill towns of Umbria and Tuscany to Florence and Venice, with our days and nights filled with touring, music, laughter and good food. Singing in a half-dozen different churches, each with its own acoustics, architecture and art was a wonderful experience.

My personal high points came in singing the older pieces on our program in the kinds of space that they were written for, especially San Marco in Venice. This reaction was shared by the partner of one of our choristers, who said that he finally appreciated Bach after hearing us sing one of his motets in Italian churches.
