The Baroque Choral Guild welcomes Heather Hoffman to its Board of Directors. A native of Toronto, Canada, Heather currently teaches United States history, geography, and government to eighth graders in Redwood City. Before she became a social studies teacher, she had worked in customer service and human resources for various software companies in Silicon Valley. She decided to move into education, in part, because of her long involvement with Toronto’s youth orchestras and choirs, where she had observed how much young people benefit from interaction with caring and committed adults. As the child of professional musicians, Heather found herself immersed in choral music from an early age. She was an original member of the High Park Girls’ Choir of Toronto, which is now the High Park Children’s Choirs, and participated heavily in that organization’s growth. In her last year there, she was Head Chorister, acting primarily as an administrator for the choristers as a whole and also as a liaison between them and the choral board. While at the University of Toronto, Heather sang with the Trinity College Chapel Choir and the Gallery Choir of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, founded by Dr. Healey Willan.
Heather comes to BCG through her relationship with our executive director, Sonja Wohlgemuth. Sonja, through her efforts in board development, discovered Heather’s desire to lend her expertise to a quality organization and the two discovered a possible partnership. The BCG nominating committee met with Heather and then invited her to visit one of our monthly board meetings. In early April, both sides accepted. Heather will focus her attention on our youth choir programs as well as lending her writing skills to our public relations efforts.
Heather lives in the Emerald Hills district of Redwood City with her husband and daughter.
