There Is Sweet Music:
The English Choral Tradition, Then and Now

As we take you on The Grand Tour this season, our next stop visits merrie olde England in a program highlighting two especially fruitful eras in British music. First, we survey early English music with works of Henry Purcell, England’s preeminent Baroque composer, and such Renaissance masters as William Byrd, Orlando Gibbons, and Thomas Morley. Then we jump to another time rich in musical creativity, the twentieth century.

The Benefits of Touring
The Guild Chorus and Cantabile Chamber Choir are busy preparing for their respective summer tours. “The Grand Tour” has been the theme permeating all our communications since the beginning of the season, and now as the departure dates draw near, excitement is growing.

Cantabile Meets the Composer
Sisters, a work for orchestra, adult chorus, and children’s chorus celebrating the city of San Jose and her many sister cities, had its world premiere on February 8. In preparation for that event, composer Craig Bohmler, a tall, thin, vibrant, and muscular man of considerable kindness, came to work with the Cantabile Chamber Choir at their rehearsal on January 13.

Drawing Prizes
As you may or may not know, funding sources for non-profit organizations are becoming more and more difficult to come by. The cuts in foundation support have been especially deep.
