The Voice of a Chorister

The Baroque Choral Guild invites you to develop a stronger connection with the singers of the Guild Chorus, those who give of their time to prepare successfully and present such beautiful and enlightening music. Our singers are real people touched every day by their experience with the Baroque Choral Guild.

Meet John Christiansen

“Music is an important part of my life. Singing allows me an artistic outlet that I normally do not have. Life can get fairly one-dimensional quickly, and I always fight becoming someone who does nothing but work. Singing is one of the ways that I try to balance out my life.

“I began singing in groups when I was in first grade and all the way through high school I was in one group or another. None were really of the caliber of the BCG, but they were fun. I stopped singing (I don’t think singing in the shower counts) when I left for college and ended up taking quite a long break to get my career and life on track. At some point I realized that I really missed it. It had probably been 10 or 12 years since I had sung in a group when I was invited to a performance of the Bach B Minor Mass performed by the Guild Chorus. The performance was wonderful and really moved me. One of the members found out I had sung in the past and that I was a much sought after tenor and pushed me to try out.

“I have now been singing with BCG for five or six years and am so happy that music is once again in my life. The chorus is great in so many ways. In addition to many friendships that I have built, it is fun because there is such a wide range of experience levels and abilities and the members all help develop each other. I have gained a wider exposure to a lot of music and look forward to the years to come.”
