Cantabile begins eighth year

New season brings renewed commitment

Cantabile Children’s Chorus began their 2001–2002 season with a renewed emphasis on theory and fundamentals. For the first time, Cantabile is providing music theory workbooks to singers in all levels; directors Signe Boyer and Peggy Spool are guiding each child’s progress through the lessons.

Also for the first time, Chamber Ensemble and Level 3 Choir participated in a fall weekend retreat September 21–23 at the Happy Valley Conference Center near Santa Cruz. Concert Choir was invited to participate in the Saturday sessions. As well as working on repertoire, singers learned Feldenkrais movement techniques from Beth Sidlow and studied with Cheryl Anderson, Director of Choral Activities at Cabrillo College.

Special thanks to volunteers

Cantabile could not thrive without help from all its wonderful volunteers. Many thanks are due to Choir Parents Mary Sheila McMahon, Sally Froud, Lynn Klein, Judy Blood, Nori Kimura, Vivian Herzog, and Barbara Maloney; Uniform Coordinators Cynthia McNaughton and Sally Chaves; and Volunteer Coordinators Maria Richter and Angel Reyda. Special thanks also go out to Barbara Weinstein for arranging the fall retreat and to Angel Reyda for taking some wonderful pictures at Happy Valley.
