Director Dole announces new season

Music Director Sanford Dole has programmed an exciting new concert season for the Guild Chorus. Rehearsals begin September 18 for the fall quarter, which will be spent preparing festive holiday music for performancess on December 8 and 9.

Works for the Christmas season, including Britten's "Ceremony of Carols," Respighi's "Laud to the Nativity," and Pinkham's "Advent Cantata" will be performed with harp and chamber orchestra.

On March 16 and 17, the Guild Chorus performs a cappella choral music in a concert entitled "The Flemish Masters." Besides 15th C. sacred and secular works by Josquin, Lassus, Gombert and others, the program will feature pieces by modern Dutch composers.

For the season finale, on June 1 and 2, the Guild Chorus will perform with organ, brass, and percussion accompaniment. The featured work of this rousing concert is Matthias's "Ceremony after a Fire Raid," a celebratory piece of post-WWII London.

Members of the Baroque Choral Guild Chorus rehearse at either of two sites - on Mondays at First Presbyterian Church in Palo Alto or on Tuesdays at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Berkeley. Joint rehearsals are held monthly and before each performance. Auditions for new choristers will be held on September 4 and 5. Experienced choral singers who are interested in joining the Guild Chorus should call to make an appointment.

Information about the chorus, including its performance repertoire, history, and member guidelines can be found on the Baroque Choral Guild's web site: www.bcg.org.
