Cantabile Choral Guild is a musical organization dedicated to raising the level of musical knowledge in the Bay Area through educational programs and professional quality performances of challenging repertoire of both traditional and unusual works.

One of the main activities of Cantabile is the concert season of Cantabile Chorale, its 70-voice adult chorus. The concert season roughly follows a quarterly, academic year. Three times a season, a ten to twelve-week rehearsal period is followed by a concert set with performances in Palo Alto and Berkeley.

Although Cantabile Chorale is non-professional and community-based, its repertoire is very demanding. Over the years the chorus has built a reputation for high-quality performances and innovative programming.

Subscriptions

Season subscriptions: $60 general, $45 seniors, $15 students
Single tickets: $25 general, $20 seniors, $6 students

Auditions

Cantabile Chorale holds annual auditions for new members before each concert season. We are also happy to hear singers periodically throughout the season.

Auditions for New Singers

Monday December 6 First Presbyterian, Palo Alto 7:00-10:00
Tuesday December 21 All Souls Episcopal, Berkeley 7:00-10:00

Our procedure is simple. You are asked to sing a prepared piece--it can be any type of song. Music Director, Sanford Dole will also ask you to do some vocalizing and sight-reading. The audition lasts 10-12 minutes. You will be notified of the audition result by phone. We look forward to hearing you!

Volunteer

Want to be more involved with Cantabile Choral Guild? Cantabile is looking for volunteers who would be willing to:
  • Usher concerts
  • Help with concert setup and takedown
  • Contribute frequent-flier miles to provide air transportation for guest artists
  • Host a guest artist in your home
  • Contribute photocopying
  • Help with necessary scutwork (e.g. stapling programs, sticking mailing labels, stuffing envelopes)
  • Find or donate drawing prizes
