Founded in 1994 by Artistic Director, Signe Boyer, now under
the artistic leadership of Elena Sharkova, Cantabile is a
member of the Foothills College Performing Arts Alliance
and the Cantabile Choral Guild, which sponsors youth education
programs as part of its mission of “Music for Life” and
brings the finest in choral music to the San Francisco Bay
Area. Cantabile provides a quality choral music experience
offering curriculum designed with an emphasis on music theory,
vocal training, combined choral and instrumental performance
and a wide variety of traditional, modern, and commissioned
music.
Recently Cantabile launched their Cornerstone
Campaign to
grow over the next 3-5 years as one of the Bay Area's premiere
youth choral organizations.
Cantabile Youth Singers operates
four graduated choir levels which serve children ages 7-18
from the Peninsula through
South Bay. For additional educational growth, youth activities
include quarterly training workshops as well as weekend
and weeklong retreats. Workshops and retreats include
vocal training,
diction and language coaching, movement and dance, training
in theory, music reading skills, interpretation, deportment
and history led by staff and guest artists.
In
addition to presenting annual Winter and Spring concerts,
Cantabile singers perform throughout the community,
are guest ensembles with Bay Area choral and orchestral organizations
and tour nationally and internationally.

- Mission Chamber Orchestra and the San Jose Symphonic
Choir in a premiere of Craig Bohmler's Sisters.
- Henry Mollicone's A Rat's Tale with El Camino Youth Symphony.
- Sondra Clark's Requiem for Lost Children with the San
Jose Symphonic Choir, Missa Gaia by Libby Larsen, with
Schola Cantorum.
- Miss Rumphius, by Victoria Ebel-Sabo, with the Peninsula
Women's Chorus.
- Monteverdi Vespers and Bach's St. Matthew Passion with
the Baroque Choral Guild.
- Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and Alva Henderson's The Ancient
Ones.
- Cantabile has also sung with the San Jose Symphony in
their Christmas Celebration Concert, performed an adaptation
of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta Pirates of Penzance,
and performed for the San Jose Tech Museum's groundbreaking
dinner at the Fairmont Hotel.
Tours:
2003, Cantabile's Chamber Choir participated in its third European
tour traveling to Hungary and Austria where they spent a training
day with the Vienna Boys Choir.
2000, the Choir participated in the Tuscany International Children's Choir Festival
in Florence, Italy. In Summer 1998, Cantabile performed throughout England. |
