Select members of Ensemble and Vocalise choirs traveled to England from July 10 through July 19 to participate in the Somerset International Children’s Choral Festival, and to perform many uplifting concerts for the British public. The Festival's Artistic Director was none other than our own Elena Sharkova. Highlights of the tour included performances at Wells Cathedral, Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford, Sherborne Abbey, Great Wakering as well as a special reception by Mayor of Southend-on-Sea, David Norman.
“I was deeply impressed, not only by our singers’ dedication and hard work while on tour, but also by their enthusiasm and maturity,” said Maestra Sharkova. She added, “During our stay in England, I was inspired to see our group transform into artistic ambassadors of Silicon Valley.”
In between performances, the group visited some of the world-famous sights of England, and even managed to catch the latest Harry Potter movie!
During the last four days in England, our choristers were hosted by their Southend-on-Sea counterparts, who visited the Bay Area last year and stayed as guests in their homes. This trip strengthened the bonds of friendship between the two choirs, and the singers will likely stay in contact for many more years to come.
